Elche is the second most populated city on the Costa Blanca and is famous for its Palmeral (palm tree plantation), declared by Unesco as a World Heritage Site. The municipality of Elche extends from its urban centre, 15 km inland, to the Mediterranean coast, and contains Alicante-Elche International Airport.
Elche has 12 km of coastline, 9 km of which are formed by dune beaches and pine woods, offering a typical Mediterranean landscape. To the north the extensive dunes of the beaches of Altet can be found, which continue until Arenales del Sol, a tourist centre which offers a wide variety of services. To the south we encounter the La Marina area, which also has several different beaches and significant urban developments.
