The town of Torrox is situated on the Eastern Costa del Sol, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and at the foot of the Sierra de Almijara. It is one of the municipalities that make up the La Axarquía region and has a population of almost 19,000 inhabitants. It is divided into two distinct nuclei; the old centre of Torrox, located inland, and Torrox Costa, located on the coast, where most of the population is to be found. It is worth mentioning that it is home to one of the largest colonies of German residents in Spain.
Proximity to the mountain, as well as the Mediterranean Sea, means that temperatures in Torrox are moderate in both winter and summer. The average annual temperature is 64.8°F (18.2°C), with no major differences between winter and summer, seeming almost subtropical.
If there is one thing that stands out in Torrox, it is its beaches and its historical and artistic heritage. Near the lighthouse there are archaeological remains from Roman times, as well as watchtowers from the 15th century. We recommend a stroll through the town centre, with its narrow streets, white-walled houses and flowered balconies.
